Last cycle, we focused on censorship awareness. Our lesson included a little background information followed by a hands-on activity to make us think about books. This cycle, we are building on that experience by selecting and designing our own awareness campaign tool. We start by looking at the example of DeAngelo Williams, who proposed that the NFL adopt pink cleats to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and then a year later, after he lost his mother to Breast cancer, was denied his request to wear pink eye black beyond October 31st during NFL games without being financially penalized.
Then we reviewed a list of "awarenesses" featured during the month of October, each student selected one, and completed a design thinking proposal.
When we meet for "lab time", we will follow our plan to complete a product designed to raise awareness about the issue we chose.
